Extension to an Edwardian House

Horsley Townsend Architects were commissioned to design an extension to a semi-detached Edwardian house in Leeds.  The brief comprised an enlarged kitchen, re-organization of the internal layout and to re-dress the top heavy accommodation of the dwelling.  The house is a fine example of an gentleman's residence of the time, located in a leafy suburb of Leeds and a located in a conservation area.  Horsley Townsend proposed a contemporary side and rear extension with an open plan living dining area and large feature glazing which dramatically improved the relationship of the principle living areas onto the garden.  The design required the use of traditional materials with contemporary detailing to satisfy both the clients brief and the Local Planning Authority.
